SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL.
This was an image I captured on recent trip to Melbourne - This photo represents the juxtaposition between natural and man-made, whereby in between the man-made world lies a river, which splits this built-up city in half. In particular I like the lighting in this image - the water is reflective of the varying tones in the sky, from yellows, to purples, to blue. This image has a sense of mystery to it, where the river is glowing, yet the buildings remain a dark shadow.
GREAT PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE.
Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. Designed by Frank Gehry in 1997, it is definitely one of the most iconic art galleries of our time. It is a fluid structure that consists of radically sculpted, organic contours which seemingly flow into one another. Not only is it an impressive structure, but Gehry has also used a material not often used in buildings, which adds to its originality. The building somewhat changes at different times of the day, whereby the sun hits it, reflecting the light, and therefore changing the colour of the building. I particularly like the contrast in architecture, where on one side of the Nervion River there are small historical buildings, then on the other theres a contemporary, monumental building. The Guggenheim was hailed as one of the most spectacular buildings in the world.
CREATIVE WORK.
This was one of my projects which I completed during my architectural technology course - it is a concept model of a public building on the beach, which consists of a gallery, restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. Ive attempted to create wave-like structure, by using a formation of tilted glass panels that continually flow across the building, ideally mimicing the ocean beyond.
